They function both as exterior walls, as well as interior walls, creating definition of spaces and an aesthetic backdrop. These stone walls were refined and cut by hand and crafted to piece together a seamless mass, like a well-thought-out puzzle. “For a home in Armonk, New York, our client, Vito Errico, co-founder of Equinox, wanted it to appear very open, and we designed the structure to incorporate columns within strategically placed stone walls, which also gave us the ability to create an indoor/outdoor mood to the home. More: A Room Design Inspired By Your Travels We designed a home where we had multiple columns, and we created wine storage/space separation, cladding the columns in millwork and using clay drainage tiles as wine bottle storage for a see-through effect. By engaging columns within a built-in, flanking a cabinet, or creating room dividers incorporating columns, there are many ways to achieve a useful column concept. “I’ve often enhanced existing columns by adding to them, changing their shape (minimizing or maximizing), as well as utilizing different cladding strategies.
